BATH

The City of Bath is a World Heritage Site with a stunning collection of architectural works of Art.

It was first established as a spa resort with the latin name, Aquae Sulis ("the waters of Sulis") by the Romans in AD 43.

Much later, it again became popular as a spa during the Georgian era, which led to a major expansion that left a heritage of exemplary Georgian architecture crafted from Bath Stone. The architects John Wood the elder and his son John Wood the younger laid out the new quarters in streets and squares, the identical façades of which gave an impression of palatial scale and classical decorum. Much of the creamy gold stone was obtained from the local underground mines.
