The Kennet & Avon Canal was completed in 1810 and flourished until 1840. Thimble Mill Pumping Station is a former engine house listed Grade II. It formerly pumped water up from the river, replacing the water that was lost each time a boat went through the locks.

Ebenezer Chapel dates from 1831 and is listed Grade II. A stunning building on the edge of the canal with a distinctive crenelated Bath stone façade and arched pointed head sash windows. Famous for its roof with biblical texts, including “You must be born again” and “Prepare to meet your God”, which are also listed. It is joined to Ebenezer Terrace.
